Atlantic City Fire Burned for Two Hours

ATLANTIC CITY — An off-duty city firefighter is being credited with helping evacuate residents Thursday morning when flames ripped through an apartment building above a grocery store in Chelsea.

The blaze at 4403 Ventnor Ave. was reported just before 9:30 a.m. More than 40 firefighters battled flames and the 90-degree heat and humidty of the day, rotating in shifts to break for water, shade and sometimes oxygen.

Tax records indicate the building is owned by Alka and Bhavesh “Bob” Patel and is assessed at $445,700.

NORTHFIELD - A woman is dead after a house fire that collapsed the roof of a one-story rancher on Bay Drive on Saturday.

Officials have not identified the victim. City tax records show the home is owned by William and Roseann Eisenhardt.

Mayor Erland Chau confirmed the woman's death and said the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is handling the investigation because it was a fatality. He said authorities will resume searching the home Sunday, adding police will be stationed at the home overnight......Continue Reading

NORTHFIELD - Firefighters from throughout the region battled a blaze Saturday afternoon that collapsed the roof of a one-story rancher on Bay Drive and may have killed someone.

Initial reports said a victim was inside the home at 2200 Bay Drive, which city tax records show is owned by William and Roseann Eisenhardt.

Fire Chief Bruce Cummings said the blaze does not appear suspicious but directed all other questions to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. A Prosecutor's Office spokesman has not responded to a call for comment.

Initial reports at 3 p.m. Saturday included a victim inside the residence. The report noted the roof was about to collapse. Bay Drive is closed.

Woman dies in house blaze in Salem County

A woman is dead after flames erupted inside a home in Salem County, New Jersey.

The two alarm fire started around 3 a.m. Saturday on North 7th and Gibbon streets.

Authorities say the woman became trapped inside.

Firefighters discovered the woman as they made their way through the flames.

The victim's son managed to make it out of the house safely.

Officials say the victims are relatives of a Wilmington firefighter.

No word on what caused the blaze.
