Traffic Advisory UPDATE - Moss Mill Road, Hammonton

EVFC NewsBeginning Monday, December 14 through Wednesday, December 16, a road closure/ detour will be in effect on Moss Mill Road in Hammonton, between 7th Street and the White Horse Pike, from 7:30 AM to 4 PM each day for work by the Town of Hammonton.

Police will be on site to assist motorists. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour or plan an alternate route and allow extra travel time. This work is contingent on weather conditions.

Stay Fire Smart! Don’t Get Burned
Testing the water before putting a child in the bath may sound like common sense. Wearing short or close-fitting sleeves when cooking on the stovetop may show foresight. This and other simple actions may be all it takes to prevent devastating burns.

Fire Prevention Week 2009 focuses on burn awareness and prevention, as well as keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires. Questions or comments on this year's campaign? We'd love to hear from you!

Members of the Elwood Vol. Fire Company once again attended this years Firemen's Convention in Wildwood. Eighteen of us drove down and four Delegates attended the meeting. We looked at the latest fire/rescue equipment and vendors. We also met firemen from all over New Jersey and well as met up with old friends from surrounding companies.

The New Jersey State Police had a drill today at the old State Police Barracks on the White Horse Pike in Elwood.  The Elwood Fire Company and the Washingtownship Fire Department assisted with supplying water for the decon equipment.

LAWRENCE F. VOGELMAN - 70 of The Sweetwater Fire Company Passed Away

VOGELMAN, LAWRENCE F. 70 - of Sweetwater, passed away on July 22, 2009. Larry was born in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School. Larry was a member of the Teamsters Local #169 for 42 years, the last 12 of those years as the Vice President. He was a captain in the Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Company.

Over the years, Larry found great joy in coaching and watching youth sports. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

 Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Pat Vogelman (Mabin); his children, Patricia Vogelman (David), Tim Vogelman (Lynne), and Meg Steeb (Jeff); his six grandchildren, Cara, Timothy, Gabrielle, Phillip, Jullian, and Jeffrey; and one great-grandchild, Connor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations may be made "In Memory of Lawrence F. Vogelman" Northeast Catholic High Alumni Scholarship Fund c/o Alumni Office, 11842 Torresdale Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Wimberg Funeral Home 400 Liverpool Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ from 5:00 until 8:00 PM and again on Monday, July 27, 2009 from 9:00 until 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Church, 525 St. Louis Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at the Egg Harbor City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wimberg Funeral Home 400 Liverpool Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ 609-965-0357. For condolences or directions, please visit www.wimbergfuneralhome.com

The Atlantic County Tanker Task Force Drill

The Elwood Fire Company Hosted the Atlantic County Tanker Task Force Drill on Sunday June 28th at 8:00am.  Apparatus from 13 fire departments responded to the Carpenter's Training Center on Rt 30 in Mullica Twp.  10 Tankers and 3 pumpers carrying 32,500 gallons of water and transported over 100,000 gallons of water in 1hr 50mins.
