Update: Three firefighters injured battling A.C. blaze, rescuing woman

ATLANTIC CITY – Three firefighters were injured battling a blaze at an abandoned townhouse Thursday night and rescuing a woman believed to be squatting there, authorities said this morning.

Atlantic City Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said the fire appears suspicious, but authorities are still investigating its cause.

An Egg Harbor City man killed his girlfriend and her 7-year-old son, then set the home they shared on fire, according to charges filed Friday.

Joseph F. Palmer III, 38, who lived in the Washington Avenue home with Michelle and Gavin Pabst, is charged with two counts of murder and aggravated arson in the deaths of the mother and son, whose bodies were found inside after firefighters put out Wednesday’s blaze, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced Friday.
