Fire Destroys Shed on Shelter Avenue in EHT

Fire-Rescue News

AC Press

Egg Harbor Township - A home storage shed was destroyed in a fire Friday morning.

The emergency call came in about 1:45 a.m. for a fire at an outdoor shed by a house on Shelter Avenue, according to Scullville Volunteer Fire Company Chief Mike Fiedor.

Fiedor, who lives four blocks away, said he was there within two minutes and saw a large fire "with gasoline popping (and burning) whatever they had in there." The family that lived in the house and their neighbor were evacuated for safety reasons, Fiedor said. No one was hurt.

Eighteen firefighters from the Scullville and Bargaintown fire companies fought the blaze. It took them about 12 minutes to get it under control. The blaze is being investigated by township Fire Inspector Don Stauffer, Fiedor said.

Fire in A.C. Apartment House Quickly Contained, 6 Displaced

From Press staff reports

ATLANTIC CITY - Six people were displaced Thursday morning when fire ripped through a home on the unit block of South Raleigh Avenue.

Five people were in the six-unit apartment building when the fire started just before 10 a.m., Battalion Chief Michael Mooney said. The owner, who also lives in the home, was able to evacuate everyone.

The old, wood-frame construction is a nightmare for firefighters, Mooney pointed out.

"It virtually runs right to the roof," he said.

But in this case, a quick "aggressive interior attack" helped confine the damage to two units on the third floor of the four-story building.

The electrical fire was ruled accidental, Mooney said.

It was under control by 10:30 a.m. Fire personnel cleared the area just after noon.

From Press staff reports

EGG HARBOR CITY - A fire that broke out along the Egg Harbor City-Galloway Township border Saturday afternoon is about 75 percent contained, state Forest Fire Warden Greg McLaughlin said Sunday.

As of Sunday evening, the fire covered about 314 acres and had spread to an Atlantic white cedar swamp, which is difficult for firefighters to access, McLaughlin said.

He said the fire is likely to be 100 percent contained by today and should be under control by Tuesday or Wednesday.

The cause of the fire was undetermined Sunday night, but fire officials are continuing to investigate, McLaughlin said. No injuries or property damage has been reported.
