ATLANTIC CITY - Law enforcement is investigating an incident involving city firefighters, officials have confirmed.

While rumors run rampant about the incident, no officials would discuss details of the allegations.

"The mayor was informed about the alleged incident after hours yesterday," said Kevin Hall, spokesman for Mayor Lorenzo Langford.

Langford is withholding comment until the investigation is completed, Hall said. That includes getting reports from several departments, including Fire Chief Dennis Brooks.

"All I know is, it's supposed to be firefighters," Brooks said. "To me, they're all allegations and rumors until I'm told otherwise."

Brooks did not know which firefighters were allegedly involved. He said he would need information from the law enforcement investigation before he is able to write a report.

But neither city police Chief John Mooney nor Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel would even confirm that there is an investigation, citing their respective office's policies.

"It is the policy of this office not to comment on the existence or not of an investigation unless there is conclusive evidence of criminality or charges have been filed," Housel said in a statement.

WOODBINE--- An ambulance on the way to a 911 call, missed a critical turn at the intersection of Lincoln & DeHirsch Ave., crashing into a house, injuring a woman sitting on the front porch.

The ambulance, belonging to Belleplain Emergency Corps, was responding to a cardiac emergency call around 5:20 pm, when the driver, 28 year old Nicholas Hyduk, lost control while heading northbound on Lincoln Av.

"...A rescue squad came across (the intersection) hit the divots that are in that road and got a little airborne," said nearby resident Manuel Gonzalez, "....there was an elderly woman sitting on the steps, the ambulance ran into her."

53 year old, Martha Perez was airlifted to ARMC Trauma Unit with head and face injuries, but was later released after being treated.

Wilson Torres, Perez' son-in-law was standing only a few feet from her when the ambulance careened into the front yard, "....he was coming really fast and when he hit that bump over there, the ambulance jumped over the floor and he lost control and he went straight to the house."

Chief Bill King, Sr., head of Belleplain Emergency Corps, disputes claims that his company's ambulance was speeding, "....we did our GPS speeds and apparently the truck wasn't speeding."

According to King, the ambulance was only going a few miles per hour above the posted speed limit of 25mph, "....the fastest it went was 32...and that was down the street here, it was doing about 29 at the intersection."

Ambulance driver Nicholas Hyduk, and passenger Brian Glenning were both treated for minor injuries at the scene.

N.J. State Police are investigating the accident.
