A series of storms moved across southern New Jersey Wednesday night, downing trees and power lines and leaving thousands of residents without electricity.
Police and firefighters in Cumberland County and western Atlantic County said they responded to dozens of calls as the storm moved its way east.
As of 10:45 p.m., 2,721 customers in Hammonton, 1,520 in Buena and 845 in Millville were without electricity, and other areas had smaller outages, according to the Atlantic City Electric Web site. Others had lost their power earlier, but had it restored.

Mullica Township- A family was left homeless Wednesday morning when a fire destroyed their Moores Avenue home.
Fire companies responded to a call about a structure fire at about 10 a.m., at a two-story home in the 3600 block of Moores Avenue.
The Nesco Volunteer Fire Company, with assistance from the Elwood Fire Company, had the fire contained in less than an hour. However, the blaze destroyed the home and seared a gaping hole in its roof.
Family members said no one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.
The Mullica Township Police Department is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Coast Guard used a helicoptor to rescue an Egg Harbor City man Tuesday after his Jet Ski ran aground.
The Coast Guard says Robert Cook, 47, was riding his Jet Ski near Brigantine Bridge in Brigantine Bay, when the tide went out.
Cook called the Coast Guard at 7:51 p.m., but his cell phone had limited power. A rescue boat couldn't reach him due to shallow water, so a helicoptor rescued him instead. He was taken to the Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City, where he was met by family members.
Cook was not injured.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - An unidentified pedestrian, who was in the roadway, died Saturday night after being struck by a car traveling east on the Black Horse Pike, police said.
According to the police reports, the pedestrian was struck at about 10:25 p.m. by a Nissan Murano driven by Andriy Moroz, 34, of Philadelphia. Moroz then crashed into an Audi A6, also traveling east, driven by Michael Skinner, 62, of Haddonfield.
The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Atlantic County Medical Examiner's Office. The drivers of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

In addition to police, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office fatal crash unit, the Laureldale Fire Company, the Hamilton Township Rescue Squad and the state Department of Transportation incident response team responded to the scene.
No charges have been filed at this time, police said. Hamilton Township Officer Wade Smith and Detective Michael Robison are investigating.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - An empty trailer burned up Saturday night in the Scullville section of the township.
The fire happened at about 9:30 p.m. inside the Ocean Heights Trailer Park on Ocean Heights Avenue, Chief Mike Fiedor said Sunday. Fiedor said the trailer was abandoned, but it was being worked on. It took 26 firefighters from the Scullville and Bargaintown fire departments about 25 minutes to put out the flames.
Fiedor said the fire destroyed everything inside, which wasn't much to start with. "It's almost like a coke can, all metal outside and gutted inside," he said. No one was hurt. Fiedor added that the fire is considered suspicious and officials do not know how it started.

Aggravated arson charged in trailer fire
A local man was charged with aggravated arson in connection with a trailer fire in the Ocean Heights Mobile Park that brought out 26 firefighters to battle the flames, police said Monday.
Firefighters were called to the abandoned trailer, which was being rehabilitated, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The trailer was destroyed. An investigation determined the fire was deliberately set, police said.
David Corba, 45, of Egg Harbor Township, was arrested, and charged with burglary and aggravated arson, police said. He was taken to the Atlantic County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
