New fire erupts in Wharton State Forest

Fire-Rescue News

Crews from the state Forest Fire Service are battling a blaze that has already consumed about 250 acres in the Wharton State Forest in southern New Jersey.

The fire had not been contained as of late Sunday afternoon, but authorities believed they could keep it from spreading. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

Several nearby roads have been shut down so crews can battle the blaze, and a nearby campground was evacuated.

The blaze is the latest in a series of forest fires in the state that have been spawned in recent days by dry conditions.
