EGG HARBOR TWP. - Firefighters were on the scene of a 2-alarm blaze at a home on 400 block of Zion Road in Egg Harbor Township.

The call went out around 12:30 Thursday afternoon after a police officer was out on rounds and saw the smoke coming from the home. The officer then knocked on the door and got a sleeping resident and his dog out of the house.

Fire officials say careless smoking on the back porch was the cause of the two alarm fire. An ash tray fell over and ignited siding.

The house is considered a total loss and the resident was relocated by the American Red Cross.
