HAMILTON TWP. -- An oil burning lamp is to blame for an early morning fire that destroyed a home in Hamilton Township Tuesday morning.

The blaze broke out at around 1:45 a.m. on the 6400 block of Garfield Avenue in the Mizpah section of the township.

Fire officials say the home was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene. One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

The home did not have power due to the weekend storm, and officials say the fire started because of an oil burning lamp. The house is a total loss.

Meanwhile, firefighters responded to another structure fire earlier in the night, at around 10:30 a.m. on the 6000 block of Main Street in Mays Landing, where officials say a candle on top of a dryer ignited nearby clothing. Luckily, firefighters were able to save the house.

Residents from both incidents had to relocate. Police are asking residents to use caution when using candles in their homes.
