flames coming from the windows.
"There was fire coming out of the first and second floor of the building," Pleasantville Fire Captain Ken Crawford said.
Neighbors say they could see the smoke blocks away.
"I first seen the smoke and I'm on Second Street. I thought it was the school," witness Victor Randall said.
Victor Randall quickly learned it was not the school and came down to the burning house and snapped pictures of the back of the house where the fire had completely burnt the structure.
"I saw the side burning and the back burning and just a lot of smoke," Randall added.
Firefighters say the one man inside made it out safely, but was treated for chest pains on the scene.
"I was hoping everybody was out, but I heard the smoke detectors going off so I figured they were safe," Randall said.
Officials say the house is about 60 percent destroyed and became so hot that it melted the siding on the neighbor's house.
"I'm just glad. The house can be gone, but I'm just glad he made it out," Randall said.
Officials from Pleasantville Fire Department say one man and his two adult children live in the house and are now under the care of the Red Cross.
Fire investigators were on the scene until about 7:30 Monday night, but have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
