The service reported that brush fire burned approximately 20 acres by Tuesday afternoon, Germain said in a news release.
Police did not evacuate any buildings in the vicinity of the fire, although officers did evacuate about 20 people from the nearby Barnegat Branch Rail Trail that is in close proximity to where the fire took place.
Barnegat Boulevard and the Barnegat Branch Rail Trail were closed for several hours while the blaze was controlled.
According to a news release, police closed the trail to pedestrian and bicycle traffic between Rosehill Road and the Green Briar entrance to the trail in neighboring Ocean Township.
Police said as a precautionary measure, fire trucks remain stationed at the Atlantic Heights apartment complex and the Patriot’s Cove housing development and there are currently no threats to residents or structures.
