fire department. They started the demolition process of station one today and we look forward to what the future brings" says Deputy Chief Dan Adams, Margate City Fire Department.
The project on the 100 year-old building was originally designed to add more space. But after months of going back and forth, officials instead decided to gut the entire house from top to bottom.
"Some of the remodeling is a total layout, remodeling of the second floor area and this will actually help us, make us more efficient with streamlining our business operation at the fire department" says Adams.
Some additional features will include new offices, equipment areas, kitchens and bathrooms all for the city's firefighters.
"We are looking at a several month operation, we anticipate on being in hopefully by Thanksgiving or Christmas time of 2012" says Adams.
The department is grateful for everyone who helped make the renovations on the house become reality, but the only downside for the crew is having their trucks and equipment, scattered all over town.
"Were kind of displaced at this time, our station two crew that is normally here is stationed in Longport's station three" says Chief Anthony Tabasso, Margate City Fire Department.
"We did loose a lot of garage space, equipment space, and we have an engine and trailer at the public works building" says Adams.
The Margate City Fire Department said they are "extremely grateful" to have Longport's station help them house their truck. But even with some construction and rearranging, officials want to assure residents that it is still the same reliable Margate Fire Department as it was before.
"The operation of the fire department will not change one bit, and we still provide a high level of quality service to all of our residents" says Adams.
