WILDWOOD AND MAYS LANDING FIRE DEPARTMENTS RECEIEVE FEDERAL GRANTS
SOUTH JERSEY -- Six New Jersey fire departments and a safety squad were awarded more than $2 million combined in federal funding for necessary equipment, training and vehicles. Among those departments are Wildwood and Mays Landing.
Wildwood Fire Department received more than $350,000 in federal grants from United States Senator Robert Menendez and Representative Frank LoBiondo. Mayor Ernie Troiano says the money will be used to replace the firefighter's breathing apparatus equipment, something that typically costs $7,000 per Wildwood's 50 units.
The grant will save the taxpayers a substantial amount of money.
"This is a great gift to the city of Wildwood, so we're extremely grateful and happy that we got it," said Mayor Troiano.
Mays Landing received more than $179,000 and Jersey City topped the list, receiving almost $1 million.
