loss," said the Chief Kurt Hess of the Millville Fire Dept.
The smoke was so thick; a neighbor thought the fire was coming from her own home.
"Well I heard the fire engines in my neighborhood and they sounded louder than usual and then my smoke detector went off and so I thought I did something in the kitchen then looked outside and saw the house behind us on fire," said Sharon Brewster, a witness.
As firefighters battled the blaze, neighbors stood in shock, taking pictures of the massive flames.
"Yea I got a lot of pictures...I'll probably post them on facebook tag the fire departments on them," said a passerby.
It's unclear how the fire started at this time, however officials tell NBC 40 heavy flames we're quite challenging because of the structure of the building.
"Pure and simple the construction is open from the basement all the way to the attic and it just runs like a chimney," said Chief Hess.
As a result, firefighters were eventually called out of the burning home due to an increased danger.
"When we decided to go into defensive mode we decided not to risk no ones health or wealth fare so we watch them real careful I don't have many so we have to watch them," said Chief Hess.
And the good news is, no one was hurt, in fact, we're told the property has been vacant for sometime.
