fund the $14.4 million facility.
The South Jersey Transportation Authority, which runs the Egg Harbor Township airport, has been moving forward with plans to construct the five-bay firehouse to replace an existing facility.
In May, the SJTA approved a contract with Sambe Construction Co. of Pennsauken, Camden County, to build the Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting Station. Officials said federal grants will fund most of the project.
The rescue and fire building primarily serves the commercial airport.
It also offers support services when needed to the nearby William J. Hughes Technical Center and the 177th Air National Guard Fighter Wing.
The new structure will be built on airport grounds near Tilton Road. Officials have said work on the facility could start in July.
