hearing or deaf. And when officials from the Atlantic City Fire Department tested out the alarms.
Students couldn't help but to cover their ears.
Zakia Hameed said, "I really need this because I have two deaf kids not one and I'm so happy they gave us the alarms and I say thank you again."
Often times, the safety alarms are too expensive for many families to afford that's why the Atlantic City Fire Department went ahead and made the purchase for them.
"At 170 dollars per unit the ac fire dept was able to do this at no cost to these families," said Asst. Chief Scott McKnight.
Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said, "I know the detectors are expensive but at the cost of human life theres no comparison we would spend every dime to save one citizen."
According to the chief they took money from their fire prevention fund because firefighters know first hand how dangerous a blaze can be.
The administration at Sovereign Avenue School tells NBC 40 they are extremely grateful for the gifts and the Atlantic City Fire Department.
