the economy but through various efforts they were able to raise $150,000 for the new building.
While many of the Bargaintown firefighters were excited about the building project, working has been tough because their crew is scattered throughout town.
"I live a block away and have to pass it to go to the other firehouse," said Michael Otaegui, the Bargaintown Fire Department President. "Not only is that taking away from the community but it's lengthening our response time when we could be out in 3 minutes as opposed to 6."
Biggs Brothers Construction is in charge of building the new firehouse and workers said they take a special interest in the project.
"My grandfather was the person that built the Fire Department here in Bargaintown and built the first and it's a pleasure to build the second one," said Tony Biggs, Secretary of Biggs Brothers Construction.
Construction for the new Bargaintown firehouse will begin on Monday and they are hoping the building will be completed no later than July.
