The first floor of a Brigantine duplex is uninhabitable after being heavily damaged in a fire Thursday morning.

had immediately notified the second floor residents to evacuate.

Firefighters found heavy black smoke and fire coming from the first floor, Maguire said. The fire was brought under control in about ten minutes.

The first floor unit is uninhabitable after sustaining heavy fire, smoke and heat damage, Maguire said, with damage estimated at about $100,000. The second floor residents were able to return.

The fire is still under investigation, Maguire said, but appears to be accidental.
