The Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at........Continue Reading the former airport to clear brush in preparation for the three-day festival set for June 24 to 26. "They're ripping down buildings and doing a controlled burn to get the field ready for the concert," Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said Thursday. "It's been approved by the (New Jersey Forest) Fire Service. We're standing by with equipment." The controlled fire was one of two in the area Thursday. Forest Fire Service and State Police officials confirmed a supervised fire in southern Ocean County. The smoke could be seen along sections of the Garden State Parkway near Tuckerton and Stafford Township. Atlantic City Solicitor G. Bruce Ward confirmed to The Press of Atlantic City earlier this week that a deal had been signed to bring a Dave Matthews Band-led music festival to the old airport along Albany Avenue in the Chelsea Heights section of the city. Each day's concert would run for about 12 hours, likely from about 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Officials are expected to provide more details during a March 8 news conference.
