Fire Rescue News - FAMILY SURVEYS FIRE DAMAGE
CAPE MAY COUNTY-- Jerry White surveyed what is left of his Dennis Township home. Charred walls, ceilings and debris are all that remain.
"There was a cabinet on the wall here," said White.

destruction in its path. They say a faulty wire in a section of the house caused the initial spark and now they have next to nothing.
"Everything is totally gone. We lost pretty much everything we had and Christmas is gone for this year," said White.
However, the blaze could have been much worse.
"I guess we were lucky to get out. Five minutes later and I don't think we would have made it," said White.
Jerry and Karen White lived here with their 31-year-old son Kenneth, his girlfriend and their young grandchildren Jason, Kenny and David. The seven were all asleep until smoke started to fill the house.
"The smoke woke me up. I was choking, it was making me cough," said Karen White.
"I really didn't have time to think about anything, I just reacted," said Kenneth White.
Kenneth had to make two trips in the burning house to save his children. They were treated and released for smoke inhalation. Kenneth and his girlfriend were treated for minor injuries.
"Last night they wanted to know how come they couldn't sleep in their own bed," said Kenneth White.
The family now calls the Hy-Land Motor Inn home. The Red Cross is footing the bill and countless others have donated items like clothes to help the family who left a blaze with just the clothes on their backs.
"We may have lost everything but we just look at this as a new beginning. We'll just start over," said Jerry White.
"Were all alive, that's the important thing, that's it," said Karen White.
