$59,850 (August 2005) and $52,440 (February 2010).
“We will use this funding for communications equipment for our 30 firefighters and four vehicles to increase coordination and communication with dispatch to better serve the residents of Mullica Township,” said Chief Anthony Tomasco.
“This is outstanding news for the community of Elwood and its volunteer firefighters who put their lives at daily risk to protect local residents,” said LoBiondo, R-Ventnor, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus. “Particularly during this challenging economic times and budgetary concerns, federal support for our first responders is critical. I will continue to support critical programs like AFG to ensure they have the resources needed to keep our communities safe.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards grants directly to fire departments and emergency services to support their efforts to protect the communities they serve. The Fiscal Year 2010 program will distribute $390 million to first responder organizations across the country to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
The Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. For the last eight years, Congressman LoBiondo’s office has hosted local seminars for area fire departments to highlight the benefits of this grant program and assist with the application process. The Fiscal Year 2010 program received 16,231 applications nationwide.
