declared under control at 5:45 p.m. Hazlett said everybody got out of the house. He did not have the name of the family.
“We offered assistance through American Red Cross but they said they will stay with relatives,” Hazlett said.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined but it will be investigated by department fire investigator Capt. James Culbertson, Hazlett said.
About 20 firefighters fought the blaze. Hazlett said they arrived to see “heavy fire” from rear of the two-story house. Wearing airpacks, firefighters mounted an interior attack from the front to contain it to the rear.
“We pushed everything to the back, preventing the fire from spreading. It was a good stop,” Hazlett said.
The house is not a total loss but Hazlett said there was fire damage to the rear along with smoke and water damages.
The fire brought out quite a few residents to watch on a December night that was balmy after a week of frigid temperatures. Neighbors were happy to hear everybody got out safely.
