extinguish the fire, but not before it had caused irreversible damage to the property. The house was described as a "total loss" by Farmington Fire Chief James Garth Sr., who added that the house would have to be torn down.
All five fire companies were eventually called in by Chief Garth, who sounded one alarm initially before contacting the other companies as needed. Garth estimates that eight people were in the house at the time the fire broke out. Everyone inside was evacuated safely and have been placed with the Red Cross of New Jersey.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the fire and Garth said a full reports won't be available until next week. A church located nearby suffered no exterior damage but did lose power as a result of the fire.
