EVFC News

The State of New Jersey has an optional certification for Firefighter 2. At this time certification is not required. Only the NJ Division of Fire Safety knows (or not) if there are plans to require this certification in the.......Continue Reading

future or making it a prerequisite to another certification. If you have completed a Firefighter 2 course, or can document five years of
service, you may sit for a challenge exam. The test is scheduled for a three hour window.

The challenge exam will be discontinued on 12/31/2010 and after that you will be required to attend a Firefighter 2 course before taking the test for
certification.  If you qualify to sit for the test, it is highly recommended that you do so. Certification is not required now but may be, in some way, in the future. Three hours, and no fee, to sit for the exam. After the end of the year, if you want to obtain Firefighter 2 certification, you must attend the course currently at 110 hours.

The choice is yours. Studying the following subjects from the Firefighter 2 course description should prepare most for the test. Report Writing & Communications, Building Construction, Fire Cause Determination, Technical Rescue Support Operations, Rope Rescue, Firefighter Survival, Foam Operations, Hose Testing, Equip. Maintenance, Advanced Ventilation, Flammable Liquids & Gases, Propane Firefighting, HazMat Spill Response, Vehicle Extrication, Hose Nozzles Appliances & Pump Ops, ICS I-200, Basic First Aid, Fire Suppression. The book to study is the latest Delmar publishing Firefighter 1 & 2 manual. Everyone recently through Firefighter 1 or 2 will have a copy.

The last scheduled tests in Atlantic County are Friday Nov. 12 at 09:00 and again at 19:00 and on Sunday Nov. 14 at 09:00. All must be registered by Nov. 1, 2010 so that the Director of Training, Mike Corbo, can request the appropriate number of tests from Kean University. If any department, or group of departments, would like to schedule a test for their group (minimum of twenty) contact the Director of Training, Mike Corbo, for information.
