6,000 by Nov. 1. Mullica officials lobbied against the move, saying it would inconvenience residents.
At its meeting Tuesday, the BPU approved the closing simultaneously with more than a dozen unrelated requests on its "consent agenda."
Comcast's Mullica office already sits at the northwest edge of the township, near the boundary with Hammonton and a little more than 3 miles from the Hammonton office that will now be the closest service location for Mullica customers.
Mayor Michael St. Amour acknowledged that opposing the closing was a long shot.

The mayor added that Comcast "is probably going to do some things financially to help us out," including helping to subsidize a Christmas light show in Mullica.
Comcast also has customer-service offices in Pleasantville, Northfield and Ventnor in Atlantic County; Avalon, Ocean City and Wildwood in Cape May County; Bridgeton, Commercial Township, Millville and Vineland in Cumberland County; and Ship Bottom and Stafford Township in southern Ocean County.
