Fire Road and Pear Street, where Egg Harbor Township Police have ended the blockade. The call came in around 1:40 p.m.
Officials said they suspect the fire started in a unit that was locked at the time. It ignited contents that could include pesticides, according to Dube and restoration specialist Frank Svitak, a damage assessor with National Restoration & Facility Services Inc. who was at the scene.
The screech of chain saws could be heard on the roadway. Firefighters were cutting through walls of adjacent storage units where the fire could have spread, Svitak said.
Fire Road remains closed.
A call went out for mutual aid from area departments. Absecon EMS, Absecon Fire and Rescue, Northfield Fire, Galloway Township's fire company from Bayview and Atlantic County Fire Marshall, in addition to EHT cops and Scullville, Bargaintown and West Atlantic City fire companies. are on the scene.
