Erma Fire Chief Warner Muller said about 36 gallows of fuel was pumped into the bilge of the boat Yo Jo by a person who accidentally pumped gasoline into a fishing rod holder instead of the nearby gas tank.
The rod holder led directly to the bilge, a lower compartment on the boat.
The Erma Fire Company placed foam on the boat to contain the fuel, and Sea Tow was expected to pump the gas out of the bilge.
Lower Township Police, Erma Volunteer Fire, Lower Township Rescue Squad and U.S. Coast Guard crews responded to the incident.
