Margate Fire Department, the amount put into such alterations is attracting a lot of attention.
The ordinance would authorize 2.3 million dollars to fix up one of the fire stations.
However, neighbors are asking for the ordinance to be placed on a referendum.
Resident Anne Pancoste said, "It gives everyone the opportunity to voe, those that are in favor to vote for it and those that are against it can vote against it."
Nearly 400 signatures were needed in the petition and that number was more than doubled.
In the meantime, the city will need to validate the signatures.
If all goes well this issue will move onto the ballots in November.
