kitchen of Room 2113, Brooks said. Flagship security evacuated the only one of three occupants of the room to be present during the fire - a blind woman - and helped in the evacuation of the rest of the 21st floor.
The fire at the 60 N. Maine Ave. building was under control by about 8:30 p.m., Brooks said. About 25 firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze.
The building's sprinkler system was activated by the fire and was active for about 10 to 12 minutes, Brooks said, leading to heavy water damage in many of the rooms on that floor.
"The sprinkler system discharged a lot of water prior to our arrival," Brooks said. "And there's probably significant smoke damage to the 21st floor. There was heavy smoke conditions, black, heavy smoke."
The occupant of Room 2113 was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus in Atlantic City, as a precautionary measure, Brooks said. Firefighters pulled out toilets to drain water and also checked parts of the 20th through 18th floors.
Several of those evacuated because of the fire were able to be move elsewhere in the building, he said.
The fire was under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious, Brooks said.
