VENTNOR-- A major fire spread through three properties tonight, putting two families out of their homes and causing a total of more than $300,000 worth of damage.

the 7000 block of Balfour Ave. for a reported structure fire.
Upon arrival, the Deputy Chief in charge declared the blaze a working fire, which was later changed to a general alarm fire. The Margate City Fire Department was then called in for back up.
Crews were able to control the severe flames after about a half an hour.
The first house that caught fire, 7009 Balfour Ave., is completely destroyed. The blaze then spread to joining structures, causing significant damage to the walls and the attic of 7005 Balfour Ave.
A third property, 7003, is said to only have smoke damage.
No one was home at 7009 at the time of the fire, but the occupants did return later on. The Red Cross is helping the families that live in two of the homes tonight, as their properties are not in liveable conditions.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
