the Buena Regional School District and worked in the Winslow Township School District in Camden County as a classroom teacher, technology specialist and director of the 21st Century Community Learning Center.
"I'm just very excited to be able to continue my role as an educational leader in Mullica because the community is a wonderful community, very supportive parents and fabulous students," she said Monday.
Harring-Marro will replace Richard Goldberg, who worked in the Mullica school district for 36 years. He will continue working for the district until the end of September to help with the transition.
Goldberg called Harring-Marro an experienced elementary and middle school educator with a lot of enthusiasm.
"She knows the district," he said. "I think we'll have some continuity there."
The Mullica Board of Education voted 6-1 to appoint Harring-Marro on Aug. 2 during a special meeting, school Business Administrator/Board Secretary Lourdes LaGuardia said.
Harring-Marro will become superintendent Sept. 1. Her contract has not been finalized, LaGuardia said. The district now has an opening for a middle school principal.
Barbara Rheault, president of the Mullica Township Education Association, said she supports Harring-Marro but questioned how school officials handled the superintendent appointment.
The Mullica Board of Education selected Jerry Jellig, headmaster of the Summit Country Day School in Cincinnati, Ohio, to be the new superintendent during a meeting June 15. The school board members discussed the superintendent's contract in executive session during a meeting July 20, but no action was taken, and the issue was tabled.
Goldberg said Jellig was offered the position and appointed in June, but he declined the job just before the July 20 meeting and never signed a contract. Rheault said she questioned whether the superintendent appointment process was handled properly and why no formal announcement about what led to the change was made publicly. Rheault added that she is waiting to get a copy of the July executive session meeting minutes.
The Mullica Township Education Association and school officials are in the midst of contract negotiations.
