New Jersey," said Farmington Volunteer Fire Department Captain Dennis Sharpe.

The recent rash of incidents has put rescue workers, including firefighters at Farmington Volunteer Fire Company, on alert. "Egg Harbor Township Police and Ambulance have been responding to, on average, an accident every five hours," said Sharpe.

This makes up for just about half of township fire company calls. Officials even claim that heavy extraction equipment like the Jaws of Life, are no being used more then usual. "Since the beginning of July we have been using the Jaws of Life twice a week compared to once a week. That's a lot of extractions," said Sharpe.

Officials blame the recent increase on congested summer roadways and careless driving. They also acknowledge the township's location. It is an area that includes hundreds of businesses, and the highly traveled Parkway and Expressway. So firehouses keep their top of the line, gear, onboard computers and equipment ready to go in the event they may have to save your life.

Officials say the best way to stay safe on the road is to slow down, drive safely and put down the cell phone.
