Fire - Rescue News - Firefighters battle early morning blaze in Millville

Fire crews spent nearly four hours battling a two-alarm fire at a duplex on Sassafras Street in Millville early Wednesday morning, but there were no injuries, a fire official said.

 fire on the front porch in an unoccupied unit, Capt. Mike Lippincott said. The adjacent unit was occupied, but the residents got out on their own.

The fire extended up the siding of the house and breached the second and third stories, Lippincott said.

The unit sustained extensive damage to the front porch and the front second-floor bedroom and extended to the third floor, Lippincott said. The adjoining unit sustained minor water damage and a little smoke, and the family was allowed to return.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 6:50 a.m., Lippincott said.

The Police Department is investigating the cause of the fire, Lippincott said.
