Fire-Rescue News- BURLINGTON CO. FIRE CONTAINED; NEARLY 500 ACRES BURNED
PEMBERTON, N.J. (AP) _ Firefighters have fully contained a wind-swept brush fire that's burned nearly 500 acres in southern New Jersey this weekend.
The fire in the Burlington County community of Pemberton, which started around 1 p.m. Saturday, was still smoldering Sunday night. It was fueled by high winds and low humidity and had produced thick smoke that forced the closures of some major area roadways.
Fire officials say the blaze probably won't be fully extinguished for a few days. And while it's believed that an abandoned campfire sparked the fire, the investigation is continuing.
The fire briefly threatened about 50 nearby homes on Saturday, but no evacuations. And no injuries were reported.
