"It came up when we had that snowstorm and then the rain came right after that and what happened was I pumped it. I
rented pumps myself," Cantrell said.
Before he knew it, the relentless storms brought the water up so high that Greg and his family of 10 were forced to
evacuate.
The Cantrells were displaced in a hotel for several days, but now, thank to the kindness of a neighbor, they have been
living in a donated trailer for the last week or two.
Detective Sergeant John Thompson, the local emergency management coordinator, says the Cantrells are not alone, with
many neighbors either being flooded out or having contaminated water.
Today, volunteers from fire departments across the country were working had to pump out as much water as possible to
help the Cantrells make it back home.
"We've made progress already as you can see with the water lines on the trees. We've only been here about an hour and
a half so we're trying to get him down to a point where he could get into the house tonight," Thompson said.
Despite the setback, Cantrell says his family is staying strong, adding that seeing neighbors and other volunteers come to
his aide has bee a true blessing.
"I got the Mayor making Hot Dogs for us...The Chief of police was here. You know and I want to thank them all."
