light smoke on the second floor, above the kitchen, Lt. Joseph Maguire said.
The Engine 3 crew went in through a second-story window and used a thermal imaging camera to find the fire beneath the floor, Maguire said. Firefighters used a saw and other tools to pull out the floor to get to the flames, while others ventilated the building and put out the fire.
The fire was under control in less than 10 minutes, and was confined to the floor and wall above the kitchen's ventilation system, Maguire said. Crews remained on the scene for about an hour.
The blaze caused nearly $30,000 worth of damage to the building and kitchen equipment, and the kitchen was closed for the evening, Maguire said. Atlantic County health officials were notified, but no food was affected, he said.
