Fire/Rescue News - MAN CHARGED, WOMAN INJURED AFTER CAR PLOWS INTO LOWER TWP. HOME
LOWER TWP.--A man is in custody and his wife is in the hospital after a car plowed into a home in Lower Township.
Crews spent most of the day at the scene on the 100 block of East Atlantic Avenue in the Villas section of the township.
Witnesses say at around 10:30a.m. Wednesday, the car was speeding and crossed over onto oncoming traffic before it left the roadway and crashed through two fences before impacting the home.
The passenger of the car, 52-year-old Michelle Ruckhardt, had to be removed and was flown to an area hospital.
She is listed in stable condition with facial and hip injuries.
The driver, 55-year-old Bernard Ruckhardt, was not injured but has been taken into custody on charges of DWI and reckless driving.
Police say the home is used as a summer residence; therefore no one was inside at the time of the crash.
However, the house was knocked about three feet off its foundation, and has been condemned.
Officials are working to remove the vehicle without the home collapsing.
The accident remains under investigation.
