PLEASANTVILLE - Authorities are investigating a fire that left six people homeless Saturday.
The blaze broke out at about 12:30 p.m. in a bedroom on the top floor of the two-level home on the 800 block of Broad Street in Pleasantville, according to Mike Corbo, deputy chief of the Pleasantville Fire Department.
Within 15 minutes, firefighters had arrived and contained the flames. The fire did not spread beyond the bedroom, but the ground level of the house sustained water damage, Corbo said.
None of the six adults living there told firefighters how the blaze may have started, Corbo said.
Pamela Grites, executive director of American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter, confirmed the agency has provided assistance to the victims of the fire. Privacy policies prevented her from providing more details, she said.
