AC Press Article: Atlantic City Expressway crash kills three
Michael Pitoscia, 21, of Williamstown, was driving west on the expressway at 5:06 a.m. when his car crossed the grass median at milemarker 31.9 near the border with Atlantic County and entered the eastbound lanes, according to State Police, Expressway Station. The car continued going west in the eastbound lanes for about three-tenths of a mile before colliding with a vehicle driven by James Murphy, 45, of Brookhaven, Pa.
Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Murphy's passenger, Joseph Cava, 55, of Philadelphia was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted by SouthStar helicopter to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he later died, police said. Pitoscia was also removed from his car and flown to Cooper, where he also died.
The expressway was closed for about three hours between Exit 33 and Exit 31 while the scene was cleared and investigated. The lanes had reopened by 8:30 a.m.
The Hammonton and Winslow fire companies responded to the scene, along with emergency medical personnel from both towns and paramedics from AtlantiCare, police said.
The accident remains under investigation, police said. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Trooper Nicholas Stavoli at 609-965-7200.

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP - Three people were killed on the Atlantic City Expressway early Wednesday morning after a car crossed the grass median and hit another car going in the opposite direction, State Police said.
