Galloway Township- A 54-year-old woman died after being hit by a car while she was walking home from work Wednesday morning.

Florencia Saravia, of the Smithville section of Galloway Township, got off a northbound bus at Route 9 and Smithville Boulevard. As she tried to cross Route 9, she stepped into the path of a pickup truck heading south, according to a statement from Galloway police.

Driver Ronald D. Mathis, 45, of Little Egg Harbor Township, who was on his way to work when he struck Saravia, has not been ticketed or charged, police said.

Dr. John Becker, at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, pronounced Saravia dead at the scene at 6:43 a.m., police said.
