HAMMONTON - N.J. authorities say they have removed a package believed to contain potentially unstable explosives from a car parked at a home in Hammonton.
Police acting on a tip that there were potentially dangerous explosives in a vehicle went to the residence at about 3 p.m.
Neighbors in a two-block area around the home were evacuated as bomb squad members evaluated the situation.
Madelaine Vitale, a spokeswoman for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, said State Police bomb squad members removed a package from the car shortly before 7 p.m. and were taking it to an undisclosed location to detonate it.
It was not known what type of explosives were involved or what prompted someone to call police.
