From Press staff reports
A storm passed through southern New Jersey on Friday evening, downing trees and wires and leaving people without electrical power.
Police departments in Atlantic and Cumberland counties said there were numerous reports of downed trees and wires, as the storm hit the area at about 5:30 p.m. Cape May County and southern Ocean County appeared to have been spared from the worst of the storm.
Nearly the entire city of Somers Point was without power Friday night, closing businesses and clogging roads as traffic lights went out. At 6:40 p.m., the Atlantic City Electric Web site reported that 6,176 of Somers Point's 6,209 customers were affected.
