EGG HARBOR TOWNSIP - A crash on the Garden State Parkway on Friday night caused only minor injuries, but the vehicle caught fire and the highway had to be closed temporarily, State Police said.
The crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. at milepost 31.8 in the southbound lanes.
Because the car was engulfed in flames, the parkway had to be shut down to allow firetrucks to reach the scene, according to State Police, Bass River Station.
Firefighters from Bargaintown and Somers Point responded. Traffic was backed up for miles more than an hour after the crash.
