The Indictment alleges that Wenzel began contacting his ex-wife by phone on several occasions during March of 2009. Wenzel's whereabouts were unknown at that time, according to Assistant Prosecutor Harlee Stein, who presented the case to the Grand Jury.
On March 16, 2009 Wenzel, 42, was located in Winchester, Kentucky, after leaving the scene of a car crash. Police discovered a loaded shotgun concealed inside the vehicle. The weapon was confiscated by Kentucky authorities and is being held for prosecution in Atlantic County.
Kentucky authorities contacted the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office where Wenzel was charged as a fugitive. He was extradited back to New Jersey in April. After being returned to New Jersey Wenzel posted bail, Stein said.
If convicted, Wenzel could face up to five years in prison.
