ATLANTIC CITY - Six people were displaced Thursday morning when fire ripped through a home on the unit block of South Raleigh Avenue.

Five people were in the six-unit apartment building when the fire started just before 10 a.m., Battalion Chief Michael Mooney said. The owner, who also lives in the home, was able to evacuate everyone.

The old, wood-frame construction is a nightmare for firefighters, Mooney pointed out.

"It virtually runs right to the roof," he said.

But in this case, a quick "aggressive interior attack" helped confine the damage to two units on the third floor of the four-story building.

The electrical fire was ruled accidental, Mooney said.

It was under control by 10:30 a.m. Fire personnel cleared the area just after noon.
