The fire appeared to have begun on the front porch of 2811 Denny. Arson investigator Det. Richard Johnson of the Atlantic City Police Department is looking into the cause.

Mooney estimated the wood-frame homes were 70 to 80 years old, and fire had traveled quickly underneath siding. 2811 Denny burned down, and 2813 Denny had serious smoke and water damage. The cost of the damage was about $150,000, Mooney said.

Location made the fire more difficult to fight, Mooney said. Denny Street is a tiny dead-end street off Iowa Avenue, between Arctic and Fairmount avenues. Equipment had to be carried to the scene from more than 100 feet away.

Property records list 2811 Denny’s owner as Wan Min Hong and its taxable value at $174,200. Mooney said a husband, wife and three children owned and occupied the house. A woman and her mother were displaced from 2813 Denny, Mooney said.
