HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - State Police are still trying to identify the man who died Saturday morning after his minivan was struck by another vehicle on the Atlantic City Expressway.
The man's fingerprints were taken during an autopsy Saturday, but so far police have not been able to find any information about him. The man's vehicle had a Pennsylvania license plate, and police are trying to reach someone at the address to which the car is registered, State Police Sgt. The driver of the other vehicle, Matthew J. Maher, 24, of Cape May Court House, was charged with drunken driving, and other charges may be pending.
Maher, a graduate of Middle Township High School, is a defender for the Philadelphia Kixx, part of the National Indoor Soccer League.
David Deal, vice president of internal operations for the Kixx, said Sunday the team was still gathering all the facts surrounding the crash. "It's with the authorities, and we respect that process," he said.
Deal added: "My thoughts and prayers are with both families."
According to State Police, the minivan driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from his vehicle after the sport utility vehicle Maher was driving struck the minivan from behind just before 3 a.m.
The minivan swerved and hit a guardrail before it overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
