One had been kept overnight for observation and treated for injuries to the ribs and hypothermia, according to Calimer, who did not release the names of the men, all from the Oceanville Fire Company.

Galloway police, the Absecon Fire Department and Bayview, South Egg Harbor, Pomona and Germania fire companies also responded, drawing back at one point due to exploding shotgun shells (Hear Audio Clip) kept by homeowner James Tarby, a carpenter who hunts as a hobby.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, but officials do not believe it was suspicious, Calimer said Tuesday.

A crane tore down much of the structure because it was unstable and still smoldering. The demolition allowed firefighters to completely extinguish the flames.

Tarby was not home at the time. The smell of smoke woke his wife, who called 911 about 9:20 a.m. before escaping safely. The couple will stay at the house next door, which they sometimes rent out.
