MULLICA TWP. -- Township Committee meetings no longer will be televised under terms of a new contract between the municipality and Comcast Cable Company.
"This is connected to (Mullica's) franchise agreement. The township agreed to the discontinuing of the taping and airing of the committee meetings," said Jeff Alexander, vice president of public relations for Comcast's eastern division.
The contract actually was finalized in February 2007, Alexander said.
Comcast continued to film and air the meetings since then.
But late last year, the company alerted township officials it would stop doing so starting this month, Alexander said.
"It was a gesture of goodwill. We honored the agreement between the township and the previous cable operator to tape and air meetings," Alexander said. "When the franchise renewals came up, all parties agreed that that would not continue."
