New Rabies Case in Mullica Twp Prompts Warning
Another case of rabies in the township has prompted Atlantic County health officials to reiterate their warnings about avoiding contact with wild animals.
Residents also are urged to vaccinate their pets.
The latest case involved a skunk that bit a dog on Moores Avenue near Chestnut Avenue in December.
This was the fourth confirmed case of rabies in the township this year and the 18th in Atlantic County.
“The best way to protect your pets is to be sure that they are current with their rabies vaccination,” county health officer Patricia Diamond said.
Residents who are exposed to an animal through a bite or scratch or have had any contact with an animal’s saliva are advised to seek medical attention and report the incident to the Atlantic County Division of Public Health at (609)645-5971.
The county animal shelter provides free rabies vaccination clinics each month. Call 485-2345 for dates.
